Summer has left the building…

Welcome back to another exciting year in FBISD!

I have always looked forward to the Fall semester.  With this season comes a new school year, a chance for a new beginning – change is in the air!  As many of you know, we had several changes happen over the summer.  First, I am your new Acting Superintendent, a role and responsibility I am excited to undertake.  I’ve worked in this District for 24 years, and I have seen many changes over that time.  Let me assure you of one thing:  we are ready to greet our students back to our campuses and offer them one of the best educations in our state and in the nation.  We are prepared to help your children become productive citizens, and we have some of the best teachers and administrators around whose goal is to ensure the success of each student.

The beginning of the school year can be a stressful time, too.  From students moving to new schools and grade levels to the parents who are trying to get their families back into a routine, August is a time of transition.  As we make our way through these transitions, it’s important to remember the many wonderful things going on in our District.  This doesn’t mean we don’t confront the challenges ahead or ignore issues that may arise during the year.  It’s imperative, though, that we celebrate our many successes and honor our students and their accomplishments.

Did you know that Fort Bend County is ranked No. 2 in the nation out of counties that have the most job growth over the past few years?  More importantly, our strong school system is one of the main factors for this growth!  According to a Houston Business Journal report, “With 78.1 percent job growth between 2000 and 2011, Fort Bend County comes in at No. 2 out of the 25 counties on the list. CNN Money notes that a favorable tax structure, strong school system and proximity to Houston help attract businesses such as Fluor Corp., Schlumberger Ltd., and CVR Energy Inc.”

I will be posting articles to The Pulse on various topics of interest to our community, so stay tuned.  Our next post will be from the Chief Information Officer, Robert Calvert, about our new Digital Citizenship initiative.

Very exciting things are happening in Fort Bend ISD, and I hope everyone has a great start to the new school year!
