“Super Search” takes Next Step

Superintendent Search Firm Selected

October has been a busy month of the year for our Board of Trustees as we’ve worked diligently to move the process forward in hiring a new superintendent for Fort Bend ISD.  During the first week of the month, a committee of Board members scored and ranked the firms that submitted proposals for search firm services.  After the committee submitted their recommendations at the October 8 Regular Board Meeting, the Board approved their rankings and decided to interview the top three firms the following week.

At a Special Called Meeting on October 15, the Board interviewed the three firms and selected Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates as the provider of superintendent search firm services.  This firm stood out to our committee due to its extensive experience in superintendent searches (800+) for both large and small school districts, its hiring of a former Cypress-Fairbanks ISD superintendent to assist with the search, and its focus on collecting input from all stakeholders during the process.  Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates has been working with school boards for more than 20 years to assist them in selecting superintendents.

On Monday, October 22, the Board voted to approve the agreement with this firm at our Regular Board Meeting.  Following are the services the firm will provide per the agreement:

  • Provide four consultant days in the District for interviews with the Board and other individuals/groups designated by the Board for the development of a Leadership Profile
  • Hold workshop to develop criteria for the Superintendent position
  • Hold Workshop to prepare Board member for the candidate interviews
  • Identify candidates and arrange interviews
  • Conduct post-interview meetings to debrief regarding the candidates

As I’ve said before, the Board takes this process very seriously and knows that this is one of the most important decisions we will make during our terms.  Please continue to visit our Superintendent Search website for more information, and we look forward to updating you on this process as it moves ahead.

Enjoy this time of year!
